‘The Trader forcibly had sex with her’: Court remands Man for robbery

A Trader has been remanded by a Circuit Court in Accra for robbery.

The Accused, Isaac Oduro robbed a Lady of her iPhone 5C mobile phone valued at GH 1,500.00 cedis.

Isaac, who was in a private car with the Lady stopped by a roadside, pulled a knife and ordered her to undress otherwise he would stab her. The Lady for fear of her life removed her dress and the Accused forcibly had sex with her, the Prosecution said.

Charged with robbery, the Accused denied any wrongdoing hence was put into custody for trial of the case. The case is being heard in His Honour, Aboagye Tandoh’s chambers.

Background to the Case

Presenting the brief facts of the case, the Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Tuaruka Duuti informed the Court that the Complainant (her name withheld by GhanaJustice) lives at Dansoman whilst the Accused, Isaac Oduro resides at Windy Hills, Pokuase.

The Police Officer said that on the 18th of March, 2016, at about 12:00am, the Accused met the Complainant at a clubhouse, Michaels Red Ice which is situated at Dansoman junction, a suburb of Accra. He continued that whilst the Complainant was sitting with her friends at a table, the Accused also joined them and engaged the Complainant in a conversation. The Prosecutor added that few minutes later, the Accused requested the Complainant to assist him locate an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at a nearest point to enable him withdraw money.

Chief Superintendent Duuti also stated that the Complainant accompanied the Accused to a roadside where she joined the Accused in a private car to Hansonic at Dansoman junction, adding that over there, the Accused went out to an ATM and returned shortly with an excuse that the ATM was faulty so the Complainant should redirect him to another location. He said that the Accused drove towards Dansoman with the Complainant on board.

The Prosecution further narrated that when the Accused and the Complainant got to first stop around Ecoute Lodge-Zodiac at about 2:00am, the Accused stopped by a roadside, pulled a knife and ordered the Complainant to undress or else he would stab her. The Complainant for fear of her life removed her dress and the Accused forcibly had sex with her.

Chief Superintendent Duuti also indicated that after the act, the Accused again pointed a knife at the Complainant and ordered her to surrender her mobile phone otherwise he would stab her, adding that the Accused collected the phone from the Complainant, dragged her out of the car and sped off. The Prosecution also said that with the help of someone, the Complainant was brought to the Police Station where she lodged a complaint. He added that the Accused went into hiding until he was arrested on the 11th of April, 2016 from his hideout and after investigation, he was arraigned before the Court.
