A Goldsmith and a Driver have been put before an Accra Circuit Court, for robbery.

The Accused persons are Yaw Antwi Boasiako, a goldsmith and Kwaku Akorsah, a driver.

The Accused persons and their accomplices who are on the run (at large), according to the Prosecution, robbed one Godwin Broke, an engineer of his white Toyota Camry, a private car valued at $48,000.00 (¢190, 320.00) at gun point in Dzorwulu, a suburb of Accra.

Yaw Antwi Boasiako and Kwaku Akorsah (Accused persons) were charged with two counts of robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime to wit, robbery but they denied the charges preferred against them by the police in their preliminary statements before the presiding judge, His Honour, Aboagye Tandoh in court.

The court therefore remanded the Accused persons into lawful custody to reappear on Thursday, the 18th of February, 2016.

Background to the Case

Presenting the facts of the case, the prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adu informed the court that Complainant, Godwin Broke is an engineer and lives at Community Three (3), Tema, adding that the Complainant owns a white Toyota Camry Saloon car with registration number GM 4493-14.

The Police Officer said that the Accused persons, Yaw Antwi Boasiako Kwaku Akorsah and suspect, Ivan Kofi Danso, who are on the run, have been good friends.

The Prosecutor also stated that on the evening of 18th June, 2015 , Ivan Kofi Danso invited the Accused person and one other suspect, Faisal, who is also on the run to his house at Kwabenya, a suburb of Accra and told them that he had seen a Toyota Camry in town and wanted the gang to rob the said car for him, which they agreed to.

‘At Nii Kwabena Boni Crescent Street in Accra, Ivan Kofi Danso spotted the Complainant’s car being driven by the Complainant in the company of his friends. He identified the car for the Accused persons and the suspect, Faisal. The gang therefore followed the car on the street where the Complainant parked to drop his friends off.

Chief Inspector Adu further added that Ivan Kofi Danso, who was in a car with his gang, drove to park directly behind the Complainant’s car and Faisal together with the first and second Accused persons went to the Complainant’s car. Faisal pointed a gun at the Complainant and forced him and his friends out of the car. Faisal drove the car with the Accused persons to Ivan Kofi Danso’s house’, the Police Officer said.

The Prosecution also stated that after the robbery, the Complainant reported the matter to the Police Station for investigations, adding that on the 5th of October, 2015, the Police retrieved the Complainant’s car which had been re-registered with number GR 479-15, from the suspect, Ivan Kofi Danso’s house.

‘Investigations led to the arrest of the Accused persons and they admitted the offences in their respective Caution Statements and were charged accordingly’, the Prosecutor informed the court.
