A driver’s mate, Edmund Kojovi, has been sentenced to one day imprisonment on the counts of unlawful entry and robbery. This was after the judge had taken into account the fact that the Accused person had been on remand since his arrest in 2016.
In reading the facts before pronouncing judgment, the presiding judge, His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, said the Complainant is a student residing at Oyarifa and the Accused person is alleged to be a driver’s mate who lives at Madina Zongo.
He narrated that on 24th March, 2016 at about 9:00 am, the Complainant was attacked at gunpoint by two armed robbers in front of his house, and was subjected to severe beatings. They robbed him of his Hyundai Donate with registration number GG 2475-15, phones, cash sum of GH₵500.00 and other documents, and bolted.
He added that on 25th September, 2016 at about 1:30 am whilst the Complainant was sleeping in his room, the Accused person jumped over the fence wall into the Complainant’s house, opened the window leading to his bedroom and threatened the Complainant to surrender his phones and monies, else he would kill him.
According to the judge, the Complainant who had a single barrel gun under his bed, fired towards the direction of the Accused person injuring the Accused person’s left hand.
The judge said the aAccused escaped and rushed to Pentecost Hospital, formerly known as Alpha Hospital at Madina Estate for treatment.
“The medical officer alerted the Madina Police, and the Accused was subsequently arrested”, he added.
According to the judge, during investigation, the Accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and mentioned that he was there with one Pigu, to rob the Complainant.
