Court remands eight Men over multiple charges

A Circuit Court in Accra has remanded eight Men into custody over multiple charges including robbery and possession of stolen property.

The Accused persons are Christopher Wedden, Joseph Tetteh, Kekelly Ntorntsi, and Patrick Ntorntsi. The rest are Bernard Agbesi, Thomas Hunyeku, Sulemana Abukari, Adamu Osman and one Fofo who is on the run.

According to the Prosecution, the Accused persons robbed one Lord Thompson and Divine Kafui of their belongings such as Samsung LED television sets, laptop computers, cash, mobile phones and wedding rings all to the tune of GHȻ21,670.00.

The eight Accused persons were charged with four counts of conspiracy, robbery and possession of stolen property but they denied all the charges leveled against them by the Police hence were remanded into lawful custody by the court, presided over by His Honour, Aboagye Tandoh to reappear on Tuesday, the 19th of April, 2016.

Background to the Case

Presenting the facts of the case, the Prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Tuaruka Duuti informed the court that the Complainant in this case is a businessman while the first Accused, Christopher Wedden Heymann is a drinking bar spot operator and the second Accused, Joseph Tetteh Sosoo is a driver. The Police Officer added that the third Accused, Kekelly Ntorntsi, the fourth Accused, Patrick Ntorntsi and the fifth Accused, Bernard Agbesi are a labourer, carpenter and painter respectively. The sixth Accused, Thomas Hunyeku is a machine operator whilst the seventh Accused, Sulemana Abukari and the eight Accused, Adamu Osman are a foreman and a machine operator.

The Prosecutor narrated that in February, 2016, the Accused persons met and to go on a robbery expedition, stating that on the 2nd of February, 2016, at about 12:00 midnight, the Accused persons attacked Lord Thompson in his residence and robbed him of his Samsung mobile phone, one Samsung DVD player, Dell and Acer laptop computers, Black Berry mobile phone and a forty-six (46) inch Samsung LED television all valued at

GHȻ7,100.00 cedis. The Accused persons also robbed the Complainant of his cash of GHȻ 2,870.00 and wedding rings, valued at GHȻ2,000.00 and a forty-six (46) inch Samsung flat television and bolted. Chief Superintendent Duuti further told the court that on the 4th of March, 2016, the Accused persons scaled over a wall into the house of one Divine Kafui at Cambodia and at gun point robbing him of his two kids Samsung tablets, one Samsung chat 222, a Samsung galaxy note five (5), one iPad, an iPhone six (6) plus and a forty-six (46) Samsung flat television, a swatch wrist watch and a wedding ring, all to the tune of GH9,700.00.

Prosecution also said that during investigation, intelligence gathered by the Police led to the arrest of the eight Accused persons and during a search conducted in their rooms, a professional generator, a gas cylinder, a thirty-two (32) inch Samsung flat screen television, an Elbe standing fan, a Philip home theatre and a Samsung television were retrieved from their rooms, stating that in their Caution Statements. They denied stealing the aforementioned items (exhibits) from the Complainants, however the case is still under investigation.
