The Chartered Institute of Marketing Bill, 2019 has been laid and read for the first time on the floor of Parliament.
The purpose of the Bill is to establish the Chartered Institute of Marketing, to regulate marketing professionals locally and to provide the statutory authority for the operations of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
The Explanatory Memorandum of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Bill, 2019, establishes the Chartered Institute of Marketing as a corporate body with the objective of regulation and ensuring the highest professional standards in the practice of marketing.
The objective of the Institute is to set standards in the marketing profession comparable to similar professional bodies in other countries.
The Institute is also to promote the marketing profession and ensure a high quality of service and maintain international standards.
The Institute will operate as an independent autonomous body, and its functions are to promote the study and practice of modern scientific marketing, and to establish close co-operation among persons engaged in marketing locally.
The Institute is expected to promote high professional standards in the local business community and educate the general public on marketing concepts and conduct local examinations for its students.
The Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, presented the Chartered Institute of Marketing Bill, 2019 on behalf of the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, subsequently referred the Bill to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education for consideration and report.
