The Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior, Mr. James Agalga, has indicated that a motion has been filed to haul the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Minister for Interior to Parliament, to provide answers to the recent gaffe of the three kidnapped girls.
Mr. Agalga stated that the motion is to give detailed accounts of what has transpired with respect to the investigations and counter information of the three kidnapped girls, and the security situation of the country.
In an interview with ghanajustice.com, Mr. Agalga pointed out that the security of the country is fast deteriorating at an alarming rate.
The Ranking Member who doubles as Member of Parliament for Builsa North, reiterated that it is important for Parliament to have an open discussion on the recent developments on the three kidnapped girls accompanied by contradictory statements from the Police Service.
“Parliament will act on the recent developments of the kidnapped girls and we expect an open conversation on the security situation in the country as against in-camera conversation. We expect that the IGP and the Interior Minister give detailed accounts on the country’s security on the floor of the House”, Mr. Agalga suggested.
He said that in the event that the Interior Minister believes that there are some sensitive issues that must not be made public, Parliamentary procedures allows for closed-door discussions, to prevent the media from direct access to information.
Mr. Agalga concluded that the motion which was spearheaded by the Minority, is yet to be admitted by the Speaker of Parliament when Parliament reconvenes.
There have been contradictory statements from the Director-General, CID concerning the three girls who were kidnapped in Takoradi.
On April 2, 2019, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, in a press conference, pointed out that police had discovered the whereabouts of three girls kidnapped girls and are closer to bringing them home.
Meanwhile, on May 13, 2019, DCOP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, in a contradictory statement pointed out that her utterances of knowing the whereabouts of the kidnapped girls was to give hope to the police service.
She further added that Ghanaians misunderstood her statement on the location of the kidnapped girls.
