An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced an 18-year old auto electrician, Fuad Mohammed to 10 years imprisonment and 5 years imprisonment on the counts of robbery and causing harm, respectively.
Fuad Mohammed was however discharged on the count of conspiracy to commit crime.
The judge ordered that the sentences be served concurrently.
The second Accused person, Yussif Mohammed, aged 20, was however, discharged on all three counts; the counts of conspiracy to commit crime, robbery and causing harm.
The facts of the case as presented by the prosecution are that the Complainant, Mercy Awunia, is a secretary with Kwannor Consult Limited, while the Accused persons, Fuad Mohammed and Yussif Mohammed, are an auto electrician and “okada” rider, respectively.
On 2nd September, 2017, at about 3:00pm, the Complainant was returning from a wedding ceremony held at St. Kizito Catholic Church, Nima, holding two handbags and a mobile phone.
On reaching a portion of Nima roundabout, the Complainant’s two handbags were held by the Accused persons, who were riding on a motorbike with registration number M13-GR 2560.
The Complainant struggled with them, and the first Accused, Fuad Mohammed got down from the motorbike and hit the Complainant’s head at the right side.
The Complainant fell down and the first Accused snatched her mobile phone.
The first Accused run to join the second Accused who was on the motorbike, and they sped off.
The Accused persons run into an incoming ‘trotro’ and they fell down.
They were then arrested by the Nima Police patrol team, who were on their usual patrol and chanced on the scene.
