The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has expressed regret over the insulting exchanges that transpired between him and the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
He explained that his conduct of retaliation is unacceptable, and that he should have exercised restrain in responding to the ‘insulting’ comments of the Assin Central MP.
In a media encounter with the Parliamentary Press Corp at Parliament, Mr. Muntaka indicated that much is expected of a Member of Parliament in the discharge of duties and behavioural conduct.
Mr. Muntaka however, pointed out that sometimes a situation can push someone to act in an awkward manner, and that he was compelled to respond to the actions of Mr. Agyapong.
He therefore, assured the Press Corp and the leadership of Parliament that such act will not be repeated in the House.
Background
On Wednesday, January 30, 2019, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong engaged in insulting verbal exchanges with Mr. Muntaka over a motion on contemptuous comments by Mr. Agyapong.
The exchanges initially started at the Speaker of Parliament’s block when Mr. Agyapong confronted Mr. Muntaka and attacked him violently with insults.
The two Members of Parliament were separated by some legislators and some civil servants of Parliament.
Mr. Muntaka went to the Plenary as the House was preparing for the proceedings of Parliamentary business and debate.
Thereafter, Mr. Agyapong went to the Planary, and upon speaking to some MPs from the majority side, he started attacking Mr. Muntaka with insults, and called him an ‘unwise’ man.
In retaliation, Mr. Muntaka described Mr. Agyapong as a man with no dignity, and that he was a disgrace to Parliament.
Mr. Muntaka added that he was ever ready to face the Assin Central MP.
