Mr. Nortsu-Kotoe pointed out that the Education Minister must explain to the plenary, why the governing council breached the University’s statutes, by appointing a new Vice chancellor when there is a pending case in court.

In an interview with ghanajustice.com, Mr. Nortsu-Kotoe stated that he is taking up the issue with the leadership of the Minority in Parliament, so that when the House is recalled for its emergency sitting next week, the issue would be part of the agenda.

”In the statutes of every university, before a Vice-Chancellor is confirmed, the person is either elected or a search party is put in place to invite application internally or externally from qualified candidates. The governing council of UEW has rather, gone ahead to appoint Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni as the new Vice Chancellor”, he averred.

Speaking on the oversight responsibility of the Educational Committee in monitoring the activities of the tertiary education sector, Mr. Nortsu-Kotoe indicated that the issue had gone beyond the educational committee.

He revealed that the newly appointed Vice Chancellor is deeply involved in the payment of some funds in the University that led to the interdiction of the former Vice Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke.

”Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni has dismissed over twenty staff of the institution, who were seen supporting Prof. Mawutor Avoke”, he disclosed.
