A 54-year old business man, Moro Mohammed has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime, and defrauding under false pretense.
Mr. Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The facts of the case according to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Nyodikor, are that during the month of February, 2018, the first Accused Moro Mohammed approached the Complainant, Alhaji Rashad Mohammed, his friend, and convinced him that one Kwesi Hazel, the second Accused, currently at large had some assorted vehicles to be auctioned.
The first Accused therefore led the Complainant to inspect the alleged vehicles in a garage at East Legon.
The Complainant selected seven of the vehicles namely: Mandizu car, Scania Car Back, Mac car back, Benz Cargo head, Tacoma, Renault Car, and a long KIA truck which amounted to a total of GHC 82,000.00.
The total amount of GHC82,000.00 was paid to Moro Mohammed, after which he told the Complainant that there was litigation pending at the High Court in respect of the vehicles, and that he should wait for the final verdict and order from the High Court, so that they can sell the vehicle to him.
Police investigations at the High Court revealed that, auctioning of the vehicles was not assigned to the Accused persons as they alleged.
The Complainant therefore, demanded a refund of his money but it fell on deaf ears.
The Court presided over by Her Honour, Jane Harriet Naa Akweley Quaye admitted the first Accused to bail in the sum of GHC 90,000.00 with two sureties who earn not less than GHC2000.00 a month.
The case has been adjourned to 27th September, 2018.
