Parliament has postponed its scheduled emergency recall from September 10 to September 24, 2018 due to a string of new engagements that must be attended to by the leadership of the house.
At the last sitting of the Second Session of the Seventh Parliament at the plenary, the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye ruled that the house will reconvey on September 10, 2018 to tackle some unfinished businesses.
The House was expected to be recalled from recess next week for a week-long sitting to consider some emergency business, including a plenary voting and a ruling on the Privileges Committee’s recommendations to either reprimand or suspend the Assin Central MP, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, over some insulting comments.
Speaking to a group of journalists in Parliament, the Majority Leader, Mr. Osei Kyei Mensa-Bonsu indicated that some leaders of the house have been tasked to attend a forum outside the country within the time frame of the emergency recall to the house.
He explained that “the Speaker is sending myself, the first Deputy Speaker and the Minority Leader to Indonesia over the weekend. There is a world forum that we have to attend. It was not on the cards before we adjourned so we have to go this weekend”.
Mr. Mensah-Bonsu again disclosed that Prof. Oquaye will also travel to Korea for an important meeting.
“The Speaker himself has also been invited to Korea next week which is why we have now rescheduled to the 24th of September”, he reiterated.
