An Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship, Justice Gifty Agyei Addo, has qauashed the suspension of Lawyer Francis Xavier Sosu by the General Legal Council.
This was after the human rights lawyer filed a certiorari application to have the suspension quashed.
In declaring her ruling, the judge said that the General Legal Council exceeded its jurisdiction because the offence and punishment for overcharging a client was not defined.
She added that there was no complainant for the charge of advertising and touting against the lawyer.
Lawyer Francis Sosu, was suspended for three years in the year 2017 by the General Legal Council for overcharging a client in a compensation claim of GHC 200,000 after he told his client he was offering a pro-bono service. The fee charged was GHC50,000.00
He was suspended also for advertising his firm’s name, telephone numbers and address on Facebook, which is against the profession’s code of conduct.
