An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh has sentenced two robbers to a total of 41 years imprisonment.
The First Accused, Isaac Agyemang Asamani has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment whilst the Second Accused, Desmond Opoku has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
The facts of the case are that the Complainants, Boakye Boampong and Kwasi Boampong Boakye are research fellow and electrical engineer respectively residing at Sakumono Estate, while the Accused persons are traders.
On 16th June, 2017, at about 9:00 pm, the Complainants returned home from work and when they got to their entrance, Kwasi Boampong Boakye alighted from a silver Hyundai Creta 4×4, with registration number GW 5630-17, to open the gate while Boakye Boampong drove the car into the house.
Kwasi Boampong Boakye in the process of closing the gate, was attacked by the Accused persons who were in masks and had guns.
The Accused persons collected the Complainants’ iPhone 5 and 6, an Acer laptop, an HP i3 laptop, a wallet containing GH₵200, £75, a Barclays bank card, a U.K driver’s license, an Olympus 712 recorder, a Diesel wrist watch and the Hyundai Creta.
The Accused persons used their guns to hit the heads of the Complainants, injuring them in the process.
The Complainants reported the case to the Police and police medical forms were issued to them to take to the hospital for examination.
On 18th June, 2017, the Accused persons were arrested at McCarthy Hills. Â A search conducted in their rooms led to the retrieval of the wrist watch and the laptop bag.
The Accused persons were arrested and taken to the Sakumono Police station.
During interrogation, the first Accused told Police that on 16th June, 2017, at about 11pm, his friends, Kwaku and Dela brought a 4×4 vehicle with a 2017 registration to his house to take him out but he declined. He also claimed on 17th June, 2017 he came out of his house and saw the laptop bag with the wrist watch in it.
The Accused persons pleaded not guilty.
