It is wrong for the President to be shown Anas’ latest exposè – 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament
The Honourable Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has questioned the screening of the latest exposé of ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to the president before the widely-publicised screening at the Accra International Conference Center.
The Honourable Deputy Speaker indicated that he sees no reason why the exposé should be shown to the President before the full airing on a well-planned date at the Accra International Conference Centre.
In an interview conducted by Ghanajustice.com, the Member of Parliament for Nadowli/Kaleo said, “We were told that it will be aired on the 6th of June and all of a sudden some people have had the opportunity of viewing it before the 6th of June and no less a person than the Number One Gentleman of the country. Why are some people given that opportunity to see the documentary before the general public?”
Mr. Bagbin again said that there could be more issue to the video since it involves some government officials in alleged corrupt acts.
According to one of Ghana’s longest-serving lawmaker, corruption counts against a broad class including the giver and taker in any given situation, and it is important for the video to come out for Ghanaians to see and to decide how such corrupt acts should be handled.
The documentary is said to have sent shivers down the spine of football administrators.
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, on Tuesday confirmed to journalists that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has watched the documentary titled “Number 12: When Misconduct & Greed Become the Norm”.
Mr. Jinapor revealed that the President was not happy with the use of his name by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, as captured in the documentary; hence, his decision to report to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to have the football chief investigated.
The head of the country’s football-governing body has already subjected himself to the CID investigations following his return to Ghana from Morocco on Wednesday.
