An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, has remanded four men for possessing and using narcotics.
According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu, Complainants in the case are members of the Madina Divisional Police Patrol Team whereas Accused Persons Mohammed Yakubu (1st Accused), Sule Mahama (2nd Accused), Kofi Acquah (3rd Accused), Ivan Quarshie (4th Accused) are residents of Madina Zongo junction and Ritz junction respectively.
He said that based on information that a group of people had been engaging in various criminal activities and trading in narcotic drugs at Madina Zongo junction and Ritz junction area, on 12th February, 2018, the Madina Divisional Police Patrol Team embarked on a special operation in Madina and its environs.
Chief Inspector Adu narrated that in the course of the operation, the Accused persons were arrested with quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The Prosecutor explained that after the arrest of Muhammad Yakubu, the First Accused person, a search was conducted in his room and partly smoked dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found concealed in his ceiling. Another search of his porch revealed a quantity of wrapped leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Chief Inspector Adu added that a search in the Second Accused’s room also revealed quantities of wrapped leaves suspected to be Indian hemp also concealed in his ceiling.
“The First and Second Accused persons admitted that the exhibits were found in their room but they denied ownership of them”, the Prosecutor said.
Chief Inspector Adu further added that the Third Accused was searched and a wrap of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found in his pocket and he admitted having possession of the said dry leaves and told the police he was about to smoke when the Police appeared on the scene.
According to the Prosecutor, Fourth Accused, who trades in narcotic drugs was arrested with sixty nine pieces of wrapped dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
“In their respective caution statements, the First and Second accused persons admitted having possession of narcotic drugs but denied ownership of the drugs. The Fourth Accused admitted having sixty nine pieces of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp whilst the Third Accused was found smoking dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp”, the Prosecutor concluded.
The four Accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case has been adjourned to 1st March, 2018.
