60 year old Trader in court for supplying narcotics

Naa Lamiley Odartey, a 60-year old trader has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly supplying narcotics.

According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector K. Adu, on 2nd February, 2018, Inspector David Akanwarikum and Constable Dina Asomani were on duty at the Charge Office of the Accra Central Police Station.

He narrated that at about 6:00pm a suspect Patience Abbey, went to the charge office with a package containing three balls of banku and ground pepper to be served to her brother, Nii Ayi, who is on remand on a murder charge.

Chief Inspector Adu explained that when the food was inspected, the officers found three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and a Techno mobile phone, concealed in the banku.

He further added that when suspect, Patience Abbey was interrogated, she mentioned the Accused person, Naa Lamley Odartey, as the person who sent her with the food.

“On 9th February, 2018, Patience Abbey’s husband led Police to the arrest of the Accused person”, the Prosecutor added.

According to Chief Inspector Adu, Accused stated in her Caution Statement that suspect, Ayi Mensah’s friend whose name she did not know but could identify if she sees him, was the one who gave her the food to be sent to Ayi Mensah.

Chief Inspector Adu said that the three wraps of suspected cannabis have been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analytical examination.

The Accused, Naa Lamiley Odartey pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Counsel for the Accused prayed the court to grant her bail.

An Accra Circuit Court presided over by His Honour, Mr.  Aboagye Tandoh has admitted the Accused to bail in the sum on GH¢20,000 Ghana Cedis with two sureties.

The case has been adjourned to 13th March, 2018.
