The First Meeting of the Third Session of the Seventh Parliament has ended as the House goes on recess.
At the end of the First Meeting of Third Session, Parliament made forty-six sitting days.
The House is expected to resume on April 29, 2019, to commence business at the Plenary.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Standing and Select Committees will sit, to discuss various reports and Bills presented to them.
After extensive deliberation at the Plenary, the House adjourned late at night on April 12, 2019.
Minority concluding remarks
The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, stated that the government should look at ways in solving the issue of Cedi depreciation.
He added that the directors of the National Investment Bank (NIB) and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) have flouted the banking laws, by diverting bank funds into other investments.
Mr. Iddrisu told the House that the government has also flouted the Fiscal Responsibility Act by exceeding its expenditure.
Majority concluding remarks
The Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Suame, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, stated that the approvals of the recent nominated Ministers will help in development of the various sectors of the economy.
He explained that the Vigilantism and Related Offences Bill, when passed, will help curb any electoral and electoral related violence.
Speaker’s remarks
The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, told the House that Ghana must focus on science and technology, for effective socio-economic development.
He explained that there is the need to empower science students and resource them adequately for them to excel in the area of science and technology.
Prof. Oquaye added that Parliament must strengthen its Information Technology infrastructure, to ensure the delivery of its mandate.
He also urged Members of Parliament to desist from lateness in the subsequent Meeting of the Third Session.
