An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, has acquitted and discharged Mr. Akwesi Nyantakyi, a cleaner, on the offence of defilement of a ten-year-old girl.
The judgement was read by Her Honour Jane Harriet Naa AKweley Quaye on behalf of Her Honour Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire at the time the Accused was arraigned before Court, are that, Akwesi Nyantakyi, the Accused resides in the same house with the Victim and her mother at Osu, Ringway Estates, and that Nyantakyi and one Akwasi Agyemang are family members residing in Victim’s father’s boys’ quarters.
He stated that on 4th May 2018, at about 3:00 pm, the Victim went to wash her hands at a tap near the boys’ quarters and met Nyantakyi there.
According to Chief Inspector Atimbire, the Accused fondled the Victim’s body and the Victim however, took Nyantakyi’s hand off her.
He added that Nyantakyi then pulled the victim into the corridor of the boys’ quarters carried her on his lap and had sex with her.
The Prosecutor stated that the Victim saw blood stains in her pants when she went to bath later that evening and again on 5th May,2018, the Victim saw blood stains, and reported the matter to her mother, who also lodged a complaint with the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU), Accra, where a medical report form was issued to her to seek medical care for the Victim.
According to the Prosecutor, Akwesi Nyantakyi was later arrested by the Police.
