Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has engaged in insulting verbal exchanges with Member of Parliament for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak over a motion on contemptuous comments by Mr. Agyapong.
The exchanges initially started at the Speaker of Parliament’s block when Mr. Agyapong confronted Mr. Muntaka and attacked him violently with insults.
The two Members of Parliament were separated by some legislators and some civil servants of Parliament.
Mr. Muntaka went to the Plenary as the House was preparing for the proceedings of Parliamentary business and debate.
Thereafter, Mr. Agyapong went to the Plenary, and upon speaking to some MPs from the majority side, he started attacking Mr. Muntaka with insults, and described him as an “unwise man”.
He again stated that Mr. Muntaka was a useless Minister under the previous administration, and that he will continuously attack him where ever he met him.
“What did you do when you were a Minister? You are such a useless person. What have you achieved in life? What have you done in your constituency? You are an animal. I will make sure I’ll match you boot-for-boot at where ever I meet you. You are such a stupid man”, Mr. Agyapong insulted.
In retaliation, Mr. Muntaka described Mr. Agyapong as a man with no dignity, and that he is a disgrace to Parliament.
Mr. Muntaka added that he is ever ready to face the Assin Central MP with appropriate and legitimate systems.
Mr. Kennedy Agyapong was subsequently sent out of the Plenary by some members from the majority.
The House had not started proceedings when the exchanges broke out at the Plenary between the two Members of Parliament.
Meanwhile, at the commencement of proceedings in the House, the two MPs were no where to be found at the Plenary.
The root of the controversy is premised on the motion filed by Mr. Muntaka on some contemptuous statements by Mr. Agyapong.
The Asawase MP who doubles as the Minority Chief Whip added that Mr. Agyapong should be held liable for his utterances in instigating the public to attack the Tiger Eye PI investigator, Mr. Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
The motion was referred to the Parliamentary Committee on Privileges for consideration and report to the Plenary.
Response from the Vice Chairman of Privileges Committee
Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo and Vice chairman for the Committee on Privileges, Mr. Kwame Asafu Agyei, indicated that the Privileges Committee has not officially received any formal petition from the Plenary on the contemptuous statement of Mr. Agyapong.
In an interview with ghanajustice.com in the Chamber block of Parliament, Mr. Asafu Agyei stated that although the Plenary has summoned the Assin Central MP to his Committee, an official notice is yet to be issued to the Committee.
“So far, we have not had any formal complaint from the House concerning Mr. Agyapong’s matter. We are waiting for a notice before we can invite him on the issue”, he added.
He however, declined in commenting on the comments of the Assin Central MP before and after the death of Mr. Hussein-Suale.
