The Information Minister-designate and Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has pointed out that he finds nothing wrong with journalists bearing political party cards.
He indicated that provided journalists are professional and objective in their reportage, it should not be a problem for journalists to be political party card holders.
Appearing before the parliamentary Select Committee on Appointments on Friday, October 26, 2018, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah disclosed that he was a card bearing member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) throughout his work as a journalist.
“One of the things that I was trained with, is professionalism. To stay on the fact and to stay in the middle very often, regardless of what my personal sentiments are on a particular matter. I tried very hard to demonstrate that in my line of work when I was practicing as a journalist”, he averred.
He however, stated that he did not allow his political affiliation with the New Patriotic Party to affect the level of professionalism of his work.
”I do know that there are a lot of journalists out there who are members of the various political parties. Some are card bearing members of various political parties. That in itself is not bad”, he said.
On his nomination as the Minister-Designate for Information by President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah thanked the President for elevating him to a substantive minister.
He stated that his nomination is an indication of confidence the President has in the youth.
“I think that my nomination is a vote of confidence in young people. I have an opportunity to contribute my quota to the governance exercise,” the former broadcaster told the Appointments Committee.
