An Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour, Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin Doku, has sentenced a teacher, Ishmael Tagoe, to 12 years imprisonment for defiling a five- year old girl.
This was after the Accused pleaded ‘guilty’ to the offence.
After conviction the Accused pleaded with the Court to tamper justice with mercy.
The facts of the case are that the Complainant Juliet Abimbilla is a decorator and a mother of the five-year old victim. She resides at Caprice within the premises of Divine Redeemed Church International.
The Accused, Ishmael Tagoe, is a pupil teacher at Hannah Day Care Centre, also within the premises of the church.
The victim for some time had been playing with other children in the compound of the church and has been visiting the Accused in his classroom from time to time.
Accused took advantage of her visit, when the victim was just three years old, and started defiling her.
On 24th May, 2018, at about 8:00pm, the Complainant detected some anomalies in the way the victim had been walking and became suspicious.
The same night when the Complainant was bathing the victim, and tried to wash her vagina, she resisted and complained of pains in her vagina.
Upon persistent questioning by the Complainant, the Victim finally opened up and revealed how she was severally defiled by the Accused, the latest occurring on the 6th of May, 2018.
On 26th May, 2018, a formal complaint was lodged at the Tesano Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) and the Accused was subsequently arrested.
He admitted the offence and stated further that had been defiling the Victim since 2016.
