Patience Abbey, a trader, who allegedly concealed a mobile phone and narcotic drugs in banku has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing narcotic drugs.
The Accused person pleaded ‘guilty’ to the offence.
According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Victor Dosoo, on 2nd February, 2018 at about 6:00pm, the Accused person, Patience Abbey, went to the charge office of the Accra Central Police Station with three balls of banku and grinded pepper to be served to her brother, Nii Ayi, who is on remand for murder at the station.
Chief Inspector Dosoo narrated that when the banku was inspected by the officers on duty at the charge office, they found three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and a Techno mobile phone concealed in the banku.
The Prosecutor added that she was arrested and detained. Upon interrogation, she mentioned one Vida Nortey, as the person who sent her with the food.
“However, the suspect could not lead police to the said Vida Nortey, when she was escorted to Gbawe”, Chief Inspector Dosoo said.
He further added that the three wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis have been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination.
The court, presided over by His Honour, Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, has deferred the sentencing to 21st February, 2018 to allow time for the Forensic Laboratory to ascertain the substance.
