A private legal practitioner, Ace Anan Ankomah, said he expects the suspects in the alleged gang rape video to be jailed for a very long time.
In a Facebook post, he said that he can think of several offences committed on the video. He stated rape, attempt to rape, indecent assault, assault and battery, abetment and conspiracy are some of the offences committed by the suspect.
He stated that he could think of several more, adding that literally the Police and the Attorney General are spoilt for choice as to what to charge them with. He said he expects a full rape charge for each of them.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service says it has intercepted a video recording of what appears to be a gang rape involving a young lady and at least five men.
It states that in view of the serious nature of the act as shown in the video, a special investigation team has been constituted at the Criminal investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to analyse the video. It adds that this is aimed at identifying those involved and getting them arrested for the necessary legal process to be activated.
The statement further appealed to media houses and those in possession of the video to stop circulating it, since it is an offence to circulate such obscene materials.
It further says that anybody with any relevant information should report to the Cyber Crime Unit at the CID Headquarters for further action.
