Alex Owusu Appiah, an excavator operator aged 36 years and Kofi Mensah, a driver, aged 48 years have each been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for assault and robbery.
This was after the Accused persons pleaded guilty to the offences.
According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adu, the Complainant is a taxi driver who lives at Alajo a suburb of Accra whilst the First and Second Accused live in Nkawie a suburb of Kumasi, and at Tema respectively.
The Prosecutor narrated that on the 4th December, 2017, the Complainant was driving a KIA Picanto taxi with registration number GX 4608- 16 within Lapaz at about 1:30 a.m. The two Accused persons hired the services of the Complainant from Lapaz to Oyarifa ‘Special Ice’.
He narrated that on reaching a section of the road at J. B. Estate, the two Accused persons assaulted and forced the Complainant out of the car by pushing him into a nearby bush and sped off with the vehicle. They took away his Nokia 16 mobile phone and an amount of four hundred Ghana Cedis, which he had in the car.
The Prosecutor explained that on the same day at about 8 a.m., upon the Police Wireless Message sent to all stations from Accra, the Suame Police intercepted the vehicle in question together with the two Accused persons at Suame roundabout, a suburb of Kumasi.
“On the 7th December, 2017, the two Accused persons were brought down from Kumasi to the Ayi Mensah Police station for investigation”, Chief Inspector Adu stated.
According to the Prosecutor, the Accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statement and were subsequently charged with the offence.
