The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye has summoned the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta to brief the House on the closure of the Yapei and Buipe bridges.
The Minister is expected to appear before the House on Thursday, the 30th of November, 2017.
This was after the Minority Leader, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu had prayed the Speaker to invite the Minister to explain to the House what led to the closure of the bridges.
He said they would expect the Minister to inform the House what plans and alternative measures were put in place before announcing the closure.
He also stated the House would also want to know what steps the Minister is taking together with the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and the District Assembly to solve the issue.
The Minority intimated that the closure is affecting businesses and transporters, hence would also expect the Minister to explain to the House what measures he is putting in place to ensure that users of the bridges are able to travel to their respective destinations.
The closure of the bridges has left hundreds of passengers stranded at the Yeji side of the Volta River in the Brong Ahafo Region since last week. The passengers are struggling to catch a ferry across the river to Makango on the northern bank of the river.
