The Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says a fresh policy approval of the conversion of the University for Development Studies (UDS) into three autonomous institutions, will be submitted to Cabinet for consideration.
He said this in Parliament, when he was responding to a question asked by the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Dr. Robert Kuganab-Lem. The Honourable MP asked him when the government would begin implementing the Cabinet decision of 2016 to split the University into three autonomous universities located in the Upper East, the Upper West and the Northern regions.
The Minister informed the House that there was no decision in 2016 regarding the conversion of UDS into three autonomous universities. He added that Cabinet approval for the conversion of the UDS into three autonomous institutions was given in January 2017.
He also stated that following the change in administration and in line with the enactment process, a fresh policy approval will be submitted to Cabinet for consideration. The Bill will be submitted to Parliament through the Attorney General’s Department.
He said the Ministry OF Education was working on all such Bills including that of the UDS for consideration by Parliament.
The Minister assured that the government will implement the decision when Parliament passes the bill into law.
