Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Honourable Gloria Akuffo has tasked African leaders to transform the economy of their countries to serve the needs of the people.

She said this when she was delivering a keynote address at the International Bar Association (IBA) African Forum Conference in Accra.

The Minister intimated that Africa is rich in natural resources ‘though we have security challenges; we are more at peace than before.’ She added that the continent may have won the battle for political freedom, but there is a great battle to fight and win and that is to provide the people with quality life.

She reiterated that the time is now for Africa to take a careful look at the raw material based structure of the economy and transform it to serve our own needs.

The Minister said the continent must ensure that it participates in the world economy, not on the basis of raw materials, but rather on the basis of industrialisation. She added that ‘we must improve trade among African states qualitatively and quantitatively.’

The conference which was attended by young lawyers from Ghana and other African countries was graced by the Vice President of the International Bar Association, Mr. Horacio Bernardes-Neto.
